Bryan A. Crumpler, International Concert Clarinetist

The Whos, Whats, Whens, Wheres, & Whys

Questions One Might Ask Him Or Herself When Deciding To Become A Supporter Or Sponsor.

When or if considering making a donation on this website...

...WHO am I supporting?

Simple question, simple answer... the man himself, Clarinetist Bryan A. Crumpler

...WHAT am I supporting?
  • An African American presence in the world of CLASSICAL music, a genre where the number of Black and African American performers is severely low. It can best be put as helping Bryan Crumpler become the Tiger Woods of Golf or the Venus & Serena Williams of Tennis. Like those outstanding athletes, Mr. Crumpler is paving the way for future African Americans outside the realms of more common mediums where African American musicians have been seen (i.e. Jazz, Rap, Hip Hop, R&B, Gospel & Spiritual Opera) and inside the realm of where they are lacking. Though Crumpler is an advocate of the performance, teaching, education, composition and research of music in all forms, Crumpler's main focus area of music is in the performance of TRADITIONAL CLASSICAL & CONTEMPORARY CLASSICAL music.

  • The composition of new works for Clarinet. There is a wealth of repertoire commissioned for instrumentalists every year, but only a handful written for Clarinet. To date, Crumpler has been chosen to premiere two pieces, one by Angela Jackson for unaccompanied Clarinet (premiered in Hill Hall Auditorium, Chapel Hill, NC), and a contemporary duo for Flute & Clarinet by Wilton Kelly Elder, III (premiered in the Hanes Art Museum, Chapel Hill, NC in front of the exhibit that inspired the composition). Contributing to Bryan Crumpler will allow for new works to be commissioned to add to classical and comtemporary Clarinet repertoire.

  • The live performance of classical music. Every performance takes not only practice, time, and thoughtful preparation, but also the help of volunteers and funding through financial contributions & sponsorships. Unless one owns the concert venue and pays performers to fill its seats, a recitalist like Mr. Crumpler jutting his head into a concert venue to perform live is no financial cakewalk. Renting performance venues is not cheap. Add a hall rental fee on top of hourly fees for stage/lighting technicians, plus royalty fees for the public performance of copyrighted music, plus fees for audio engineers and recording technicians to come in and provide you and the rest of the audience with a recording to remember the performance, plus costs for advertising & promotional materials just to get the word out, plus fees to provide you and other guests with a reception to give Mr. Crumpler opportunities to personally thank you for coming and the bill gets quite steep. All this, just for a solo artist to perform live in a venue. With the help of donations, volunteers, and other contributors, a significant part of the burden is relieved to keep the music of Bryan A. Crumpler alive.

...WHAT should I give?
Whatever is in your heart to give. Be it an offer to host Bryan in the event he is to audition or perform in your area, words of encouragement, or a financial donation. There is no specific item or amount anyone is required to give, but financial donations do bring sweet rewards in the future.

There are 5 major donatorship levels, each with a set of perks offered to supporters. They are as follows:

WORLD REKNOWN CONCERT ARTIST - contributions of $1000 or more
PRINCIPAL CLARINETIST - contributions of $500-$999
ASSOCIATE PRINCIPAL CLARINETIST - contributions of $250-499
AUXILIARY CLARINETIST - contributions of $100-$249
THE REEDY BUNCH - contributions of less than $100

...WHAT do I get in return?
Many many many Thanks! Of course...

Additionally, everyone who contributes is eligible for the following depending on the donatorship level or sponsorship type:

    • Public recognition the WhosThatGuy.com website (optional)
    • Your name or organization name listed in concert/recital bulletins
    • Complimentary CDs
    • Complimentary or discounted tickets to performances where available
    • Advertising space on the WhosThatGuy.com website
    • Advertising space in concert & recital bulletins
    • and a number of other perks to come

Public recognition: Everyone who makes a donation, regardless of amount, is eligible to have their name or organization listed in the "Acknowledgements" section this website. You can also remain anonymous and not be listed at all. If you choose to remain anonymous, indicate that you wish to remain anonymous in the "ADDITIONAL COMMENTS" box on the donation form when you submit your information at PayPal's website.

Listing in concert/recital bulletins: Any recital privately organized by Bryan Crumpler has an Acknowledgements section where he can Thank his supporters for their contributions. This option is available at all levels. Furthermore, concerts where Bryan is invited as a featured artist will often have space for a biography where he can include thank yous to various supporters for their contributions as well. To be included here in feature concerts, only "World Reknown Concert Artists" are eligible for mention outside of personal Thank Yous made on behalf of Mr. Crumpler to friends & family.

Complimentary CDs: But what's so special donating to get a complimentary CD when I can just purchase it at a cheaper price? Well, free demos and recordings of his live concerts that are not available for purchase are given away all the time to Crumpler supporters. Furthermore, with his new debut album coming out in September, we are excited to offer you the real deal as well!

Everyone donating $100 or more automatically receives a complimentary CD. Patrons in the Reedy Bunch donating less than $100 will be pooled into a lottery and free CDs will be given away at random for that donation year. Complimentary CDs can be given away as gifts or (in the case of official CDs) can be resold, auctioned off, or given away to solicit donations to your organization. It's not unheard of, for example, for a radio stations and other organizations to auction off autographed CDs of performers or conductors to sollicit pledges for thousands of dollars per CD. Hence, your donation and a complimentary CD could bring you sweeter rewards in the future.

Complimentary tickets to performances are primarily reserved for family. However, in cases where Bryan is a featured artist in a concert free to the public and tickets are required because of the number of people expected to attend exceed the number of comfortable seats in the concert hall, he often has leverage in getting complimentary tickets for his invited guests. When this is not the case, a solo artist sometimes gets access to a pool of tickets which must be sold or distributed prior to a certain date as a means of securing the booking. Often these tickets can be sold at a discounted price or given away to a select group of people or organizations.

Advertising space on the WhosThatGuy.com website is primarily reserved for sponsors who are subscribed to automatically make monthly or annual contributions. The funds help maintain this website as well as feed traffic to yours, and they give more exposure to your company.

Advertising space in concert & recital bulletins can only be guaranteed to those concerts specifically organized by Bryan A. Crumpler and is available to subscribed sponsors as well as one-time sponsors. This option is best for sponsors local to the area where the recital is being given.

Other perks: We are constantly finding ways to make our supporters feel like their contribution is worthwhile, even if all you need is the personal satisfaction of giving without any recognition or Thank Yous from the people to whom you give. Its only polite to Thank Crumpler supporters by offering these small tokens of appreciation. Hopefully, as Crumpler's career blossoms, we will be able to make additional offerings to our supporters. Special invites to private receptions, bumper stickers, buttons, gift baskets and more are just a few of the things we hope to offer to you in the future.

Perhaps because you have a crush on Bryan
Perhaps because you think Bryan has talent
    Perhaps because you can

There is a never-ending list of reasons why you should bother giving your support, none of which mean you necessarily have to. No single person in this world is entirely responsible for his or her own success. It takes an opportunity from someone else, a sale from someone else, help from someone else, time for someone else, recognition from someone else, love from someone else, support from someone else, a book from someone else, and a vast number of other things from people other than yourself to bring you to new heights and achieve new things each and every day. Bryan Crumpler values the support of his fans and recognizes that his success is not only a reflection of hard work, discipline, and determination, but also a reflection of the loyal supporters that have helped propell him to where he is today.
